The Styx Fountain intermittently manifests in an underground lake beneath the Athena's Daggers. It appears as a dark geyser of viscous, ebony waters, erupting from the murky depths of MaitimÃrë. The surrounding waters transform into a dense, oily broth of alien humors. These otherworldly waters contaminate the rock for numerous miles into the Underdark. The rocks that withstand the taint, and do not become excessively weakened, are designated as Styx Granite.
Traversing the Styx Fountain will guide a traveler into an inky canal leading into a perpetual gray mist faintly illuminated by ghostly lichens. This canal flows directly into the renowned River Styx. As there is no vessel provided, travelers typically row into the fountain. Upon entering the Styx Fountain, travelers have departed the world of Bal-Kriav and arrived in the realm of Oinos, within the Gray Waste domain.
