Situated in the southern peaks of Inzurakthol, the great citadel of Gruordock began as a gemstone mine. They referred to it as the Belly of Gruordock, renowned for its blue emeralds. The gems were distinctive to the region, once coveted in the markets of Thadir, Kathodrarg, and other prominent strongholds of the Horgon Era. For five hundred years, until the conclusion of Mir'piamauza, the city of Gruordock functioned as a vassal-state, loyal to an empire that largely permitted them to pursue their own affairs.
In the First Epoch, Amaglothorn Breath swept across the vale, blanketing much of it in a frigid mantle of ice. Gruordock, whose population and prosperity had been dwindling, welcomed thousands within her embrace, reviving her fortunes for centuries thereafter.
In 867, the powerful frost giant warlord seized control of Gruordock.
