Demon hunters nowadays understand that most Abyssal fiends exhibit moderate resistance to cold, though few realize this was not always the case. During the God Era, many Systems and worlds were relatively young and weak in their primary energy types. This meant that for the initial millennia after a system's formation, its denizens shared mortal vulnerabilities to extreme heat and cold. The Demon Spawn War highlighted this vulnerability when demons sought to seize territory from an angelic outpost in bitterly cold environments, such as high mountain peaks, the chilling winds of the Giant Steps, or the frigid Ice Cap wastes. To overcome this, the demon lord Aseroth created the first ice trolls through abyssal infusion, selling them at exorbitant prices to other demon lords for their conquests. After the Quara'tun Covenant defeated the demons, their scattered minions and allies, including the ice trolls, were left to their own devices, now dispersed across Bal-Kriav and other worlds, often near the former battlegrounds where they once fought alongside the demons.
