The initial troll, what the demons referred to as Kulax, emerged during the Demon Spawn War. The demons of Bal-Kriav's military district, Chen'gom, created them from captive mortals. At Aša Ukhan, exposed to demoniac energy, these hapless individuals became Abyssal Infused, monstrosities of their former selves.
The diverse troll species mirror the general build of their subjects. Giants evolve into massive mountain trolls, while ettins transform into gargantuan two-headed trolls. Medium-sized creatures become the standard troll variety, fire giants mutate into fiery trolls, and dire wolves develop into ferocious trollhounds.
The regenerative capabilities of trolls are such that some have taken to enhancing them, creating new troll sub-types like war trolls and trollhounds. War trolls are bred and trained for combat and do not emerge in the wild unless their community dedicates significant effort to imparting martial skills. Most war trolls hone their craft within the militaries of empires such as the Orchish Empire and the Toomrur Hegemony.
