The Droonesh wetland lies east and north of the Hangath Forest. Redolent of decomposing foliage, its waters are inky and opaque. The darkness stems from the vegetation, which tints the liquid as it decomposes. These very same aquatic plants serve as pigments.
Droonesh is renowned for its swarming insects and roaming, mindless undead. The latter are the creation of cults and student camps hailing from Argruxiel, who practice their dark arts far from populated areas. Some of these practitioners linger in Droonesh, a handful having been consumed by darkness, transforming into villains who peddle their craft to the Orchish Empire's Ebonweird division.
The trolls of this region have inhabited the area longer than any other inhabitants. Most are descendants of an army that had once served under Maglubiyet. During the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), this army was nearly annihilated when it became trapped between two demon armies, one serving Demogorgon and the other serving Baphomet. When the demons scattered Maglubiyet's army, they turned on each other. After the demon armies were nearly destroyed, Maglubiyet's trolls emerged from the bog, finishing them off. The trolls of Maglubiyet's army remained in the swamp, while the goblin units fled into Bowkrak, Hangath, and neighboring areas.
From the north, the swamp is nourished by the Umgaril River. This navigable waterway serves as a vital trade route between Valangrim and the swampy city of Argruxiel. To the southwest, Droonesh flows outward, forming the headwaters of the Glumgard River.
