Aša Ukhan was one of a series of coastal citadels constructed by the Nawirrûs Covenant. Throughout much of the Creation War, it served as an essential port, supplying the efforts to repel the primordial incursions spilling out of the Radullu Rift. The areas surrounding this rift, which linked this world with another, were under constant threat of primordial assault. According to a legend from the Dawn Era, the hero Phalgas was sent to Aša Ukhan. He had sustained debilitating wounds that could only be healed by nature energy. At that time, the highly skilled Silvanus was stationed in the Chen'gom military sector, studying the cross-world contamination resulting from the opening of the rift. In one of Aša Ukhan's hospitals, Silvanus cleansed Phalgas's blood.
In the Demon Spawn War, Aša Ukhan and the region that would eventually become known as the Troll Bogs served as a haven for forces loyal to the Abyssal Hegemony. The Demon Lord Sess'innek claimed dominion over this land, a claim that went largely unchallenged as Covenant forces were focused on more strategically critical areas. Nonetheless, Sess'innek dedicated himself to bolstering his armies, tasking his minions with locating and conscripting soldiers from the surrounding populace to address the issues posed by demonic rifts.
I, like others, quickly learned that a long-term war could not be prosecuted by Rifts alone. Transporting soldiers and supplies from our home system, the Abyss, to Quara'tun was perilous. You have weave spiders, in packs easily capable of overwhelming even a Primordial Lord. Rifts are costly to create, requiring null mines or sheer chance. They are inefficient. The Covenant can attest to that from the Creation War. Why move so many provisions when the natives on the other side already have their supply networks established?
Sess'innek, from his text Chen'gom Stratagems - "The Achilles' Heel"
At Aša Ukhan, Sess'innek's demons transformed locations that, during the preceding conflict, had been utilized for the care of the sick, wounded, and deceased, into research facilities. Their initial triumph occurred on 11 Bloom 125 GE, with the creation of the inaugural Troll.
Many more were produced, and then nature took its course. These brutish, dim-witted entities had little trouble propagating. They dispersed across the lands, mustering at the forefront of our armies. They were not malicious in their methods, opting to eliminate when hunger compelled them. Numerous escaped at the earliest opportunity, forgotten in some gloomy backwater, or left to wreak havoc in the aftermath of our triumphant advance.
Giracian, a general serving Sess'innek, as depicted in a scroll discovered at Aša Ukhan - "Fodder"
When Phalgas ascended on 27 Hollow 150 GE, the freshwater stream running through the hospital, which had been mingled with some of his blood, transformed into the Blood of Phalgas. The demons still occupied the location at the time of this occurrence. Terrified by the "sacred" appearance of this stream, they abandoned the hospital, constructing a substantial vault around the site, the Giracian Knot. This structure would remain undisturbed for thousands of years until adventurers finally breached it.
In the God Era, while demons and Covenant forces battled, the Radullu Creep continued its southern advance. This cross-world contamination, a result of the Radullu Rift, transformed vast regions of sectors Ara'phis and Chen'gom into wetlands. Eventually, Aša Ukhan was isolated from what would become the Bog Sea, a bay turned inland sea. The streets were submerged in swamp mud, and numerous structures were permanently flooded. The shelters beneath the city evolved into underwater mazes.
