Artaxertus is an empire comprised of hardy, cold-adapted beings, either recent arrivals or descendants of those who journeyed from Fimbulwinter, as well as the progeny of those who fled Glangveif.
Artaxertus is governed by a frost giant emperor who, in turn, answers to the Glacial Throne. The decisions and actions of the empire's leadership are profoundly shaped by the psyche of Igacin within this mystical artifact.
The empire's frost giants are divided into clan houses. Another faction comprises the Thrallrir. Originating from Fimbulwinter, they possess greater intellect than the frost giants, commonly serving as advisers and administrators.
Artaxterus has a stratified society, with the frost giants and Thrallrir occupying the upper and middle classes. The lower class primarily comprises ice trolls, disgraced frost giants and Thrallrir, and those who have yet to complete the mandatory "good citizen" ten-year service in the Thrones War ( 751 - present) . The empire is also home to various types of ice elementals, which are generally the lowest-ranking members of society - too base or too free-willed to be considered a true class. These elementals often serve as the "slave" labor force.
