The Thrones War is a continuation of the Nilkhâs Feud. As the siblings of this feud neared the end of their mortal lives, neither wished to see a stalemate, so they merged with their artifact thrones. The Pumice Throne, guided by the psyche of the renowned arch-mage Anube, controls the people of Cinderfall. Hundreds of miles west, the Glacial Throne and the psyche of the equally esteemed mage Igacin manipulate the affairs of Artaxertus.
The forces on both sides possess deep trench lines, walls, and fortifications that cover the ever-shifting boundaries where the regions of Anubeth and Igas converge. Not only do the borders change with victory and defeat, but they also physically alter with the ebb and flow of battle. A volcano may erupt from the center of a raging conflict, destroying or dispersing both sides, or a vast glacier may shift course, driving back the fiery legions of Cinderfall.
The ongoing struggle against the Thrones and their minions can no longer be sustained. They have grown increasingly powerful while our forces have steadily weakened. For a decade, we have engaged in a ruthless conflict, our adversaries driven by the intent of genocide. We must now channel all our resources into constructing a powerful ward that will confine Igacin and Anube. An undertaking of this scale has never before been attempted. Yet, our combined magical prowess and engineering expertise enable us to accomplish what few others can.
