The Gelugon Range is an extremely frigid and turbulent mountain chain that divides the Hells Womb from the Lands of Purity to the west. The range is surmounted in the north by the elevated plateau woodland of Laucentar.
This mountainous region, carved by great glaciers, possesses an unnaturally chilling wind that originates from the Caina Nexus. This rift, a gateway to the distant world of Caina, keeps the majority of the Gelugon Range in negative temperatures, except during the warmest months of Brightstar and Saunas. This pervasive cold makes the area a suitable habitat for frost giants, yeti, remorhaz, frost wolves, and other icy creatures. The most numerous denizens of this region are ice mephits and ice trolls, whose infernal progenitors crossed the rift long ago and became stranded here after the rift stabilized. This stabilization has allowed mortals to freely traverse between Bal-Kriav and Caina, while those from the other side can only enter if they originate from the Mortal Systems.
The Gelugon Range boasts an abundant supply of tin and iron. The iron near Chemosh's shadowy glacial flows undergoes a gradual transformation over time. It becomes tainted by the energies seeping across the rift, radiating faint traces of malevolence and negative entropy, eventually transmuting into the alloy known as Tantulhor.
The Council of Bile maintains mines and outposts in the southern regions of the area. Reaching these facilities requires strong military escorts due to encounters with devils. These fiendish creatures may be remnants from a time when the Caina Nexus was unstable, or they may have discovered a means to traverse the gateway. The fortified settlement of Aspungad and its elite order of dragon-riding knights, the Wardens of Aspungad, patrol the territories under the Council of Bile's control.
