The fortress of Aspungad, named after a renowned general of the Dynasty of Cal-Thaoun, originated as a remote outpost of the Kal-Oni (1016 - 1266) civilization. Situated near the treacherous passes leading into the southern ice fields of the Gelugon Range, and boasting a commanding view over the restless tribes of Hengorek, the fortress' garrison remains ever vigilant.
Perched precariously atop a steep ridge, Aspungad endures the effects of the Temporal Zephyr, suffering from intense lightning and heavy rainfall during the warmer seasons, as well as snowfall in the winter. Following the takeover by the Council of Bile, funding was directed towards harnessing the storms that consistently battered this location. Researchers, arcanists, and other specialists collaborated to install a system of metallic rods, capturing and storing the lightning for use in enchanting items such as javelins of lightning, crafting flesh golems, and empowering shambling mounds.
Aspungad's extensive library contains a wealth of knowledge on electrical spells, golem creation, and other electrical applications. Beneath the fortress lie ancient Forges with anvils imbued with the magic of dragons. Some of these anvils date back to the era of the first Diiv Kiir family of Gulimbor, the Biles. During the First Epoch, they were primarily used to forge horseshoes. Today, these anvils continue to produce both standard and enchanted horseshoes, including those of speed, barding, and armaments for mounted combat.
