Foreigners refer to Rattenkreig as the "City of the Rats". It was established by a group of lycanthropes expelled from Weretopia. Currently, the city's inhabitants are largely exiles, murderers, criminals, and misfits from other societies. Most who arrive here eventually become one of the two prevalent lycanthrope types, either a Wererat or a werewolf.
The guilds and gangs of the city are largely operated by wererats. The muscle for these organizations is provided by the werewolves.
The city is widely believed to be covertly controlled by the Rat Swarm. This clandestine control is not made public knowledge due to the fact that Ivory Asylum has placed bounties on the organization and all of its leaders. Despite the Rat Swarm's advantageous position, Ivory Asylum merchants have long leveraged their influence to thwart the capture of Rattenkreig. During periods of conflict between Ivory Asylum and Ba'lith, Rattenkreig serves as a backdoor channel for commercial activity.
