The Phanêthil Division consists of those Melephaeusans who succumbed to the necromantic arts of Caliguworm. By 1029, Caliguworm had diminished the population of his kingdom to only the undead. They roamed the isles of Necrocrypt for several years, gradually drawn in by Caliguworm and his more intelligent undead minions. They were herded or transported in cages, then taken for storage in the ancient crypts of Phanêthil.
In 1470, having proven successful in the Black Tide War, the Dead Council received intelligence regarding Phanêthil's more concealed crypts. A week later, this Phanêthil Division, comprising 18,000 skeletons, zombies, ghouls, and other undead, commenced their northbound journey to reinforce the Black Tide armies advancing into Hells Womb.
Unlike numerous other units decimated during the Artery War (1546 - 1554), the esteemed Phanêthil Division managed to persevere. Renowned for their adept ability to extract themselves from battles verging on defeat, they withdrew to the city of Zayr where they boarded Bloodtusk's death ships, sailing for the remote isles of Necrocrypt.
