This ancient army of the undead has sown terror and devastation across Hells Womb, Grashakh, and the Lands of Purity on multiple occasions. In bygone eras, the Cult of Worms and the Black Tide of Thasmudyan utilized this undead legion in countless conflicts.

The Pitch Bone Legion lies dormant beneath the numerous burial mounds and graves of the Bauru-Tûr. When the prescribed sacrifices are offered, Thasmudyan lends an archaic tome to one of his preferred necromancers. This tome is the Ebon Legion, which harbors a single spell - one that summons the Pitch Bone Legion to carry out their directives.

In 1255, the Cult of Worms raised the Pitch Bone Legion. They utilized this undead army in an attempt to compel Kal-Oni to rescind a religious decree prohibiting the practice of necromancy. After several months of controlling them, the Cult lost dominion over their undead horde. Over the following twelve years, the undead roamed the Hells Womb, wreaking havoc and slaughtering all they encountered. War accounts of the Gwaeldior Alliance indicate the undead legion proved challenging to engage in combat and track, as they left no traces in their wake, vanishing into woodlands or rivers by day, only to reemerge at night to continue their march or initiate an attack. The accounts further state that when facing certain defeat, the undead legion would disappear into a mysterious mist that materialized from thin air.

The undead of this legion are truly chilling to witness. The clatter of bones, the sharp sound of cruel weapons and spiked armor echoing through the mists, then the charred bones of the first ranks emerging from the wispy fog that surrounds each soldier. The battle then commences. Skeletal cavalry swiftly move to encircle weakened enemy units. Blinding flashes of lightning and fire ignite the mists, emanating from the death priests and necromancers near the center of the army. Elite units of ju-ju zombies and towering skeletons advance to shatter the resistance of the opposing forces. Wave after wave they come, and those that fall before them then rise again as new soldiers of the Pitch Bone Legion.

The Battle Report of Sorrow Pass The forces of the Iron Horde clashed with the defenders of Sorrow Pass on the 15th of Ironforge. The conflict was fierce and the casualties were high on both sides. After a day of intense fighting, the Iron Horde was forced to withdraw, unable to break through the resolute Ironforge defenders. The battle commenced at dawn, with the Iron Horde launching a relentless assault on the Ironforge positions. The defenders, led by the experienced Captain Ironforge, fought tenaciously, repelling wave after wave of enemy attacks. The clash of steel and the roar of cannon fire echoed through the narrow mountain pass. As the sun reached its zenith, the Iron Horde's advance began to falter. Ironforge's soldiers, bolstered by the arrival of reinforcements, pushed back the invaders, inflicting heavy losses. The Iron Horde, unable to maintain their momentum, reluctantly disengaged and retreated, conceding the pass to the defenders. Though the victory was hard-won, the Ironforge forces stood victorious, having denied the Iron Horde a critical strategic position. The bravery and resilience of the defenders ensured that Sorrow Pass remained in the hands of the Ironforge people.

In 1267, the Lances of Merioss vanquished the Pitch Bone Legion at the Battle of Mynzuth. This noble order effectively destroyed the undead horde for a time, but the legion would resurface during the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486). In this conflict, the Pitch Bone Legion operated under the command of Katrana. She revived this formidable undead legion by transporting their bones to Necrocrypt, where they were cast into six Night Vats, resurrecting them to fight once more.

The Pitch Bone Legion was the force employed to vanquish the sacred forces at Holy Sanctum. During the Luran Campaign, the hallowed site succumbed to this undead legion, resulting in an almost complete loss of its populace.
