The Lances of Merioss, a military pact between five military orders of the Lands of Purity, was formed during the reign of the Farinteen Empire (1017 - 1486). The fortress of Holy Sanctum served as a command center for coordinating the defense of the empire's frontier.
In 1260, the Lances of Merioss joined the Gwaeldior Alliance in the Kal-Oni War (1260 - 1266). Subsequently, in 1267, the last remnant of Kal-Oni's tribulations was brought to a close at the Battle of Mynzuth.
In the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486), the Lances of Merioss were part of the Farinteen Alliance. In 1483, with the Holy Sanctum under siege and numerous prominent leaders either lost or tragically raised as undead under the Black Tide's banner, the Lances of Merioss fragmented. The military orders withdrew to their bases, focusing on evacuating the populace and shifting their tactics to wage a prolonged guerrilla war.
