Founded in the early centuries of the Merorarg city-state, the Scourge of Athena arose as a militant sect, holy crusaders on the frontier disseminating the ideals of civilization and the teachings of Athena. By 1300 LE, a vast organization spanning hundreds of miles of frontier, they served the state and propagated the faith. However, zealots delivering their message at the end of a sword presented internal issues that were legally addressed.

In the era of the Niratar Theocracy (339 - 1017), the Scourge of Athena elevated the Church of Athena to prominence, necessitating the abandonment of their crusader practices.

In 1483, the dissolution of the Lances of Merioss, a military alliance combating the Black Tide, occurred. The Scourge of Athena journeyed south to Iglutt, eventually fragmenting as zealots returned the order to its former crusading traditions.

The warrior earned numerous combat decorations during the Athenian Crusade (1539 - 1551). Subsequently, the order traversed the Lands of Purity, eradicating the last vestiges of the Black Tide and undertaking philanthropic initiatives, thereby allaying concerns about the organization's ardor.

In the year 1560, desiring to be among kindred spirits and return to the frontier, the order relocated its headquarters to the city of Rumakarrûs.
