The core tenets of necromancy and the dark arts for this cult were obtained from writings discovered in the Spire of Molakh-BĂșle. When Caliguworm entered this ancient relic of the Creation War, his very essence nearly escaped his physical form. The sinister techniques he mastered would ultimately succeed where the spire had fallen short.

In 1039, Caliguworm established the Cult of Worms. Initially, the Cult concentrated on disseminating the instruction of necromancy and summoning otherworldly entities. After Caliguworm was approached by Thasmudyan and persuaded to become his disciple, the cult became a vehicle for propagating the beliefs of Thasmudyan.

In the 1250s, the Cult of Worms began raising a massive undead army known as the Pitch Bone Legion. The purpose of this army was to compel the Kal-Oni to rescind the Shadow Bull , a decree by the Kal-Oni High Church that prohibited the practice of necromancy. In 1255, the cult lost control of the Pitch Bone Legion, resulting in the ravaging of Kal-Oni towns and villages. By 1266, the devastation and terror inflicted by this undead horde, combined with a civil war, had culminated in the downfall of the Kal-Oni empire.

The Cult of Worms endeavors to disseminate the beliefs and objectives of Thasmudyan. Aside from propagating the faith of Thasmudyan, the cult inculcates religious dogma and strives to cultivate zealots of undead veneration within the Black Tide of Thasmudyan.

The cult has regional headquarters across various regions. Owing to their tumultuous history marked by hostility, heinous offenses, and the creation of undead beings, most governments have proscribed this cult. The Arch-Cabal, led by Dax Jagg, serves as the cult's supreme authority.

The cult also instructs its adherents in the arcane arts. It does not spawn undead entities akin to famine spirits or similar revenants that consume or ravage corpses. For the Cult, fewer bodies means fewer deceased that can be resurrected. Additionally, they do not conjure undead specifically engineered to annihilate other undead.

The Zombie Drakon cell of the Cult of Worms maintained a regional headquarters in Marmarath and oversaw operations in Azrik. Their mandate was to propagate the doctrines of Thasmudyan among the people of Azrik. During the Terror March, potentially in retaliation for Thasmudyan's Betrayal, the hell knight Raxcvillibus pillaged Marmarath, killing every member of the Zombie Drakon cell that could be found.
