Constructed by the city of Ilfongrak, this citadel traverses the width of the Ezdynn River. It was erected to function as a reinforced bridge and toll station for travelers moving along or requiring passage across the bridge.
Always under the constant threat of attack by those loyal to the Bloodtusk regime, Marmarath became an imposing bastion safeguarding the lands under the stewardship of the Torgilm Confederacy (1475 - 1719). Despite their three attempts, the armies of Admiral Bloodtusk were never able to seize control of this fortified settlement. However, the admiral did leave a lingering presence within its walls. During the second conflict, agents of the Zombie Drakon, a cell of the Cult of Worms, managed to infiltrate the citadel.
In the year 1693, a year into the Terror March, forces under Raxcvillibus assaulted the fortress. Per the conquering general's directives, all individuals employed by the Zombie Drakon were executed. During the subsequent reconstruction, their remains were incorporated into the walls and towers.
The defenses of Marmarath are imposing, with four towering walls safeguarding the approach and numerous squat towers housing batteries of mortars and cannons. Ju-ju zombies patrol the walls, supported by minotaur death priests. The ravines and passes of the surrounding area are monitored by several mountain giants and no fewer than fifteen wyverns and their riders. Within this formidable fortress lies a laboratory used to reinforce the undead. This lab is situated over the resting place of a high priest's bones, which have been ground up and utilized as mortar for the floor's tile. This priest was the one who commanded the Zombie Drakon cell before it was decimated during the Terror March.
Today, Marmarath functions as a fortified outpost, guarding against any intrusions by the Goth-Dyvermoir or raiders descending from Kimaris.
