The fortress of Maravapthân, named for a fearsome sea drake that inhabited the region, originated as a coastal defense, naval yard, and marketplace for plundered goods during the Horn Tusk Conflict (1023 - 1467).
The fortress of Maravapthân, situated atop a lava stone spur—a vestige of the long-vanished volcano Hermir Azrik—is an imposing naval stronghold, bristling with a hundred cannons and an array of air and naval assets. The airspace above the fortress is safeguarded by ten floating islands of Elphion.
During periods of strife, it functions as the command post of the Lix Tetrax, the general staff of the Ba'lith Empire.
