Elphion is a vast, verdant jungle situated in the southern reaches of Azrik. The region is renowned for its sky islands, some soaring above the lush canopy, others intertwined with vines or seamlessly blending into the treetops. These islands are earth motes, remnants of Chaos left behind from the world's Creation. Atop certain sky islands, visitors can behold the captivating sight of water motes and their perpetual waterfalls cascading from dizzying heights.
When the Ba'lith Empire acquired skyships, these floating islands became a strategic asset. Their military applications were extensive, enabling any power possessing them to defend land-based areas with a standard castle and another on a nearby sky island, either raining down missiles or safeguarding the airspace. Smaller ones were deployed as watchtowers over hazardous ground-based locations. For security reasons, Ba'lith's government maintains strict control over the handling of these sky islands. When they do sell them to foreign powers, the price is exorbitant. One empire, sparing no expense, purchased dozens of them solely for the city of DrakhĂ´r.
The lush forest of Elphion is dotted with Sprite settlements, nestled high in the verdant canopy. These fickle beings have served as both fearsome allies and deadly adversaries to the Tragaran people who founded the city of Merorarg, and later the freed populace of the Great Minotaur Revolt (785 - 796). During the Coeus Civil War (1694 - 1697), the native Elphions lent their support to the rogue general Rax, playing a crucial role in cutting off supply and reinforcements to the rebel stronghold of Bithiemeth. As a reward for their assistance, the people of Elphion were granted greater autonomy, becoming a state within the Ba'lith Empire in 1698.
