In 819, a young military officer named Raxcvillibus Dum-loc, commonly referred to as Rax, elevated the Dum-loc family into the prestigious ranks of Khazarkar society, the Minâth-Nôrî. This was achieved through his marriage to the reigning queen. The marriage to Queen Nâlo Nillunâth came about after the unexpected demise of her previous husband. Rax then wed the queen, with whom he had been engaged in a clandestine affair for months prior. Rax ruled as King of the First Khazarkar Empire from 819 to 823.

King Raxcvillibus and Queen Nillunâth enjoyed a few prosperous years, but the Queen eventually engaged in liaisons with other dashing young officers. Rather than suffering the fate of the previous king, Rax had the Queen brought to trial, and with a stacked jury, she was dethroned and executed for acts that embarrassed and destabilized the empire. Now secure in his position, with the military's support, he convinced the Khazarkar High Court to exile the Nillunâth family, deeming them a threat to national security. Once beyond Khazarkar borders, Rax tracked them down and eliminated them. A few days later, with military backing, he crowned himself emperor of the Khazarkar Empire.

The last emperor of the First Khazarkar Empire was Rax, who ruled as a warmongering tyrant from 823 to 829 in the region of Gulimbor. He was eventually deposed by the political group Malbazân and banished from the empire due to his plots to start a war with the Burterinii, including orchestrating the assassination of an important Minâth to pin it on the Burterinii. Exiled and unsatisfied with his loss of power, Rax traveled far north into Ma'Ohari, seeking glory and other people to command.

When he was alive, his weight was 255 lbs, and he had purple eyes and light purple skin. He maintained his middle-aged appearance for over six centuries through repeated use of the Stream of Immortality. Rax first did this when he was 54 years old. The waters of this marvel restored him to his 20-year-old appearance and kept him that way for another 77 years. He made multiple visits to the place, extending his life each time. However, he discovered that each use of its magic was less effective than the previous one. Rax resembled a man in his early 30s when he was transformed into a hell knight.

Wisps of smoke curl upward from his armored boots as the Hellfire rages within him; it is the aggression, the gift bestowed by Asmodeus when he was forged into a hell knight. Rax concentrates on subduing the mounting ire. His feelings are muted as icy, ebony negative energy spreads its tendrils throughout his frame. This gift of Thasmudyan, infused in his creation, works to counter the unbridled Hellfire that threatens to dominate his body. With his emotions now tempered, Rax turns and strides toward the wheelhouse, a space now adorned with the severed heads of his recent vanquished foes, both great and small.

from the Godspawn Saga

An imposing figure standing at 6'5" and weighing 170lbs, Raxcvillibus is a hell knight - an immortal being forged of negative energy and hellfire. His once-vibrant purple eyes have been replaced by those that burn like small flames, the shade and intensity of which often reflect his emotions. When he became undead, his skin transformed to a grayish purple hue, becoming desiccated yet as tough as the hide of a chimera. Traces of his Minâth heritage are still visible in the white areas of his complexion. As a hell knight, a unique form of undead created by two gods, he was blessed with a skin texture akin to that of a Taln'nazân Ghoul-King. The side effects of his undead state include a 50% reduction in olfactory senses, a 90% decrease in touch sensitivity, and a 150% improvement in hearing compared to the average Minâth. Rax's normal vision remains no better than when he was among the living, but he has acquired the "life-hunter sight" - an ability that allows him to perceive the living as burning like braziers of flames. Lastly, unless exposed to intense heat, such as a magical fireball, he is incapable of feeling either warmth or cold.

The desiccated hand raised by Rax reveals pulsing ribbons of negative energy where veins would be in a living being. The engineer regards the captain's deathly hands, their fingertips glowing like smoldering embers. He has observed these hands employed during speeches, clenched fists raised high like fiery spheres. The engineer has pondered whether this was merely a dramatic flourish or something more. However, what most are unaware of is that while the captain's hands excel at oration, they possess little utility beyond that.

Major Historical Events

Waters of Longevity 839

At the age of 44, in 839, Rax stumbled upon one of the holiest sites in Brucrumus - the elevated plateau known as Achamâz. It was here that he took his inaugural draught from the Stream of Immortality, which halved his age and extended his lifespan by over a century. Rax would return to this hallowed place repeatedly, allowing him to prolong his mortal existence well beyond its natural span.

Reduced to Piracy 1013 - 1017

In the final four years of the Great Exodus ( 998 - 1017 ) , Rax, the captain of the pirate ship Witch's Grace , preyed upon Khazarkar vessels and others fleeing the cataclysm -ravaged lands of Gulimbor. Some claim he did this as retribution for his banishment from the First Khazarkar Empire 184 years prior. The truth, however, is less sinister; he required funds, and piracy was easily carried out amidst the chaos of the Great Exodus.

Grarg 6 Bloom 1239

After fashioning the incisors of a deceased dragon into a ceremonial sword, the blade becomes imbued with consciousness. Rax christens it Grarg, an abridgement of the dragon Mathongrarg whose psyche now persists within the sentient weapon.

Anabara 9 Bloom 1252

With the demise of Anabara, Rax pays tribute to his cherished mount by incorporating a fragment of its horn into the pommel of Grarg's blade.

Vampire Haunts 1301

In 1301, Rax ventured into the Zan Urk Mountains, exploring a subterranean complex constructed during the era of Varelay. The complex unveiled slave quarters, or in the case of the vampires that roamed the area, a feeding ground. The former proprietor of this complex was a Drachlaz Lord named Rintasi Othralbuc. Raxcvillibus and his followers seized control of this ancient vampire refuge.

Tas'dvr Mout 1320

In the year 1320, Rax commenced construction on the grand stronghold known as Tas'dvr Mout. Emerging from the vampire's domain, they expanded skyward to the surface. Tas'dvr Mout evolved into an interconnected series of fortresses blanketing the rocky crags, culminating in the imposing walls of a colossal citadel, where even dragons and giants could find suitable accommodations.

Dark Century 1355 - 1450

From 1355 to 1450, he was under the complete domination of his intelligent weapon Grarg. He has no recollection of this period and has not attempted to uncover what transpired. The historical record remains silent on these occurrences. The events of this century were the primary factors that culminated in his punishment by higher divine authorities.

Gorthunder's General 1450 - 1462

In the year 1450, he assumed the role of a general for the Furrouth usurper, Gorthunder. Together, they devised a strategy to overthrow the Goth-Dyvermoir empire.

In one of the many palace intrigues that transpired within Orias Vual, Raxcvillibus was confined due to both envy and apprehension regarding his captivating persona. Gorthunder had Raxcvillibus shackled to a rock and then cast into one of the scorching lakes of Malephar.

His cunning and charisma were so impressive that both Thasmudyan and Asmodeus determined to revive him. They combined their powers, with Thasmudyan infusing him with negative energy and Asmodeus utilizing his system's hellfire energy. On 11 Bloom 1462, Raxcvillibus arose as a hell knight, the initial of its kind.

Skeletal remains that once supported living flesh now bear desiccated tissue Where a beating heart once resided, two masses of energy now reside - one a negative force, the antithesis of life energy, and the other the energy of the Hellfire system Eyes that remain open even while dormant appear like the merciless black orbs of a shark Awakened, these eyes begin to glow, burning with small, fierce flames

Now a hell knight, he emerged from the fiery cauldron of Malephar, initiating a war to bring down Gorthunder. In the Retribution Campaign, he wielded Asmodeus's very own Ruby Rod to compel others to join his growing army. He made a pact with the Pyrmidian Ghouls to reclaim the Pyramid of Conflict, and then, after promising to return this structure to them, their former home, enlisted their aid in assaulting Orias Vual. He also negotiated an agreement with the daughter of Gorthundor to hold back their main force while he attacked the city. Raxcvillibus's army breached the city, and he personally entered the ancient palace of Orias Vual, cutting down scores of Furrouth and fire giants, before capturing the Emperor of Goth-Dyvermoir. Gorthunder was shackled and forced to crawl through the streets of Orias Vual like a mule, his back laden with overflowing chests. A train of other minions hauled part of the city's treasury out. Raxcvillibus had Gorthundor cursed with a powerful ritual spell that suppressed his innate immunities to fire, and then had him launched from the city in the same catapult that sent him screaming into the heart of Malephar.

Departing Orias Vual, Raxcvillibus and his troops march southwest to his formidable stronghold, Tas'dvr Mout.

First Dead ( 1467 - 1485 )

In 1467, he became one of the dark leaders of the First Dead Council. When he joined, the other warmongering Thasmudyan fanatics of the Dead Council were waging an unholy crusade against the Lands of Purity. As a consequence of their lack of experience, the initial two years of the war saw Black Tide armies enduring substantial losses at Bathor and Scartaris. Rax joined the First Dead Council upon the recommendation of First Dead member Kat-Trâra Hlothuru. His expertise in commanding large forces was greatly needed, as the other Black Tide leaders had never overseen more than a platoon.

Thasmudyan's Betrayal 1485

The date was 3 War March 1485, and great battles were being waged in the Black Tide War. Thasmudyan's unholy legions were besieging a pivotal holy citadel of the adversary. The location was the Holy Sanctum, a site of considerable significance to the Lances of Merioss.

The conflict between Dax and Raxcvillibus erupted when my lord vehemently protested to the First Dead Council, arguing that they were overextending their reach by maintaining territories in both Hells Womb and the Lands of Purity. My lord suggested abandoning some of the forts and possibly Zayr to concentrate an overwhelming force in the Lands of Purity. The reasoning was that Hells Womb housed four great empires, and they lacked the capacity to hold any territory in that region if those empires decided to seize it. The plan was to secure the Lands of Purity first, and then take on those empires one by one. However, Zayr held great significance for Dax Jagg, and he reacted with near-madness to my lord's recommendation. The council agreed to abandon some forts but retain Zayr, to which Raxcvillibus replied that without those southern forts, Zayr would be exposed, possessing only the power of the Pyramid of Power and a garrison of 5,000. Raxcvillibus requested at least being allowed to choose the forts to be abandoned. Dax objected to the nitpicking, stating that the garrison may fall, the entire region may be lost, but they would reclaim it later - they were not giving up Zayr now. The arguments continued for hours, and the matter was ultimately shelved. After this Dead Council session, Raxcvillibus and Dax's relationship deteriorated.

The lord's foreboding message would eventually be validated as the Black Tide was expelled from the Lands of Purity and subsequently driven out of Hells Womb.

Svern Mourn, the esteemed wight attendant to Raxcvillibus, recounts "My Lord's Chronicle"

In the Black Tide War, Rax was recognized as one of the most charismatic and formidable members of the Black Tide of Thasmudyan. Consequently, this provoked envy and disdain among certain other leaders of the First Dead Council.

His army was the Anâth Nâru. On the battlefield, he frequently spearheaded the charge. His unwavering courage and captivating presence fostered a fervent devotion among the troops, which further fueled the animosity and jealousy of certain Black Tide leaders, most notably Dax Jagg.

Dax Jagg and Thasmudyan schemed to have Rax removed from the picture. In 1485, during a mission for Thasmudyan, Rax was apprehended by two devout crusaders, one of whom was a formidable solar named Apoxlin.

Transported to Lunia, Raxcvillibus appeared before the Hall of Edicts, where he was convicted of soul destruction and other crimes. His sentence, a potent curse, would compel him to oscillate between the mortal realm of Bal-Kriav and the immortal planes of the Hells. In what became known as Apoxlin's Sentence ( 1485 - 1683 ) , he served a 198-year term, one year for each virtuous soul he had devoured with his ravenous, soul-consuming blade, Grarg. The angelic curse dictated that he would spend nine years in the Hells and nine years back on Bal-Kriav, repeating this cycle seven times.

Apoxlin's Sentence Begins

Hells First Tour 1485-1494

When the Apoxlin's Sentence was passed, Rax was forcibly expelled from the Hall of Edicts. He plummeted through a transient rift, emerging in the frigid realm of Caina. For the ensuing three years, he traversed the icy wastes without encountering a single soul. During this time, he vanquished a formidable gelugon on this world, the sacred bone of which was later incorporated into his sentient blade, Grarg.

You are distressed, old companion. Caina has left its imprint upon you. You cannot linger in solitude for extended periods.

from the Godspawn Saga

In 1488, he was conscripted into the armies of Morax, then serving Asmodeus. This Overlord of the Hells was waging a campaign to subdue rebel leaders. It was during this period that he mastered Infernal and earned the respect of the devils who fought alongside him. Rax never encountered the true commander, who remained on another plane. His distant superior monitored the hell knight he had helped cultivate, ensuring the knight's loyalty and assessing his value.

Bal-Kriav First Return 1494 - 1503

He is returned to Bal-Kriav, finding himself seated upon his massive, tusked throne in Tas'dvr Mout. Atop one of the throne's armrests rests a scrap of vellum, providing some counsel.

Be a just ruler, your time is short.

signed Apoxlin

Hells Second Tour 1503 - 1512

On Rax's second deployment in the Hells, he once again served under Asmodeus. Together, they waged war against the abyssal lord Baphomet. During the Battle of Kurdire, Rax's army of devils captured the enemy's fortress and pillaged a Godforge. This included an anvil, slack tub, bellows, hammers, fullers, chisels, and an oven. All of these items were transported back to Nessus and handed over to Asmodeus. Many years later, with the conclusion of Apoxlin's Sentence ( 1485 - 1683 ) , Asmodeus found a way to deliver this equipment to Tas'dvr Mout. It was said to be a gift for Rax's services over a period of nearly two centuries. Rax recognized it for what it truly was: Asmodeus's far-reaching influence.

On 4 Saunas 1503, Raxcvillibus wed Kat-Trâra Hlothuru. This marriage of convenience, conducted on the realm of Nessus under the dominion of Asmodeus, granted Rax a more favorable standing within the Black Tide and provided Katrana influential contacts in the Nine Hells.

During the Second Tour of Hell, Rax acquired proficiency in the demonic tongue of Abyssal and commenced his mentalist training under the tutelage of Asmodeus.

Bal-Kriav Second Return 1512 - 1521

He returns to the region of Ma'Ohari, only to discover that his old companion Jairall Bloodtusk has seized the settlement of Yarrokhal on behalf of the Black Tide of Thasmudyan. Leading an army of firenewts and cambion dwarves, he successfully recaptures Yarrokhal. This pattern would repeat itself, as each time he departed on a journey to the Hells, someone would attempt to lay claim to this ancient ruin.

The Tas'dvr Mout's treasury was drained due to thievery and mismanagement during his absence. In 1515, seeking a rapid influx of funds, he enlisted as a mercenary captain with the Gorum Horde, an army led by the jara that would go on to pillage Amanwen. This would be the final time he aligned himself with the forces of Chaos.

Hells Third Tour 1521 - 1530

Serving Asmodeus, he led an army against the demon lord Baphomet. In this war, predominantly fought on the maze-world Mellix, he was captivated by the succubus Sephulashe, an agent of Baphomet. This demon's charm nearly caused Rax to lose a pivotal battle between Asmodeus's forces and one of his sons, the Bastard Usurper. After this civil war in their rear had concluded, Rax discovered that the Bastard Usurper was merely a puppet of Baphomet. This was not a novel foe for Asmodeus, as their rivalry originated in the Demon Spawn War when Asmodeus became the leader of the forces battling the demon invasion threatening the worlds of the Quara'tun system.

One of the prized treasures plundered from Baphomet's strongholds is the Maze Furnace.

Hells Fourth Tour 1548 - 1557

On his fourth tour to the Hells, he engaged in combat with the fallen angel Siomorta, daughter of the god Chronos. As a result of the spell Time Loop , the battle with her endured for five years, with his army and hers fighting the same confrontation hundreds of times. Only when she was decapitated was the battle permitted to conclude. Rax was penalized for squandering so much time fighting the identical battle, with Asmodeus allowing him to claim but a single possession from Siomorta's belongings. He took what he refers to as Siomorta's Timepiece.

Hells Fifth Tour 1566 - 1575

On his fifth tour to the Hells, Asmodeus dispatched Rax to the scorching realm of Nasu'ginn. One side of the domain perpetually burns, while the opposite flank hosts a verdant jungle with towering trees and canopies that shroud the deep ash-covered floor in perpetual gloom. Rax's battles on this demon-infested world transpired amidst the treetops, as the ash-laden undergrowth proved too arduous to traverse, compelling the fiends to dwell amongst the branches. The combat proved treacherous, with the peril of falling often surpassing the danger posed by the lunging claws of demons.

Hells Sixth Tour 1584 - 1593

Hells Seventh Tour 1602 - 1611

Hells Eighth Tour 1620 - 1629

Asmodeus alludes to grander designs for Rax, divulging his intention to slay the demigod Coeus.

Balith stands poised for a change in leadership. Should Coeus be ousted, you will possess the Right of Victory, enabling you to rightfully claim the mantle of leadership in accordance with their established laws.

Asmodeus, to Rax

Bal-Kriav Eighth Return 1629 - 1638

In 1629, he returned to Bal-Kriav, in the region of Azrik. He enlisted in the armies of Ba'lith, and three years later, in 1632, was promoted to the rank of general. This distinguished position was earned through his display of exceptional fighting skills and leadership abilities, honed from countless battles in the Hells and under the tutelage of some of Asmodeus's finest generals.

In 1634, Rax liberates an Earth Elemental called Daojin from the Lorfin-Bator Zoo.

Bal-Kriav Tenth Return 1665 - 1674

By 1672, Raxcvillibus had become a renowned general of Ba'lith's military. Through his formidable charisma and adeptly cultivated diplomacy, he forged the Treaty of Droorlow, bringing peace between the northern minotaurs of the Torgilm Confederacy ( 1475 - 1719 ) and their southern brethren in the Ba'lith Empire.

For a significant duration while on Bal-Kriav, he fought on the southern front, battling the invasions of the Locust Encroachment ( 1412 - 1694 ) . His most capable general during this period was a minotaur named Khôni. The carving in a canyon wall of the Dragon Maw, depicting the two, is known as the Last Two Standing.

It is simply the two of you, back-to-back, mortal against immortal, and a rampart of deceased insects surrounds you. Your father recounted that when the remainder of the army penetrated the defenses, they were compelled to excavate through twenty feet of insect exoskeletons to reach your position.

Armigûr to the captain of the Pillar of Horns

Hells Eleventh Tour 1674 - 1683

In 1674, he was compelled to the Nine Hells for the final time. This marked the conclusion of Apoxlin's Sentence, a divine punishment lasting 198 years. This time, he found himself returned to Caina. In this frigid and hellish realm, he fought through bands of devils to reach a point where he could delve deeper into the Hells and report to his long-standing master, Asmodeus. By this juncture in the history of Hell, Raxcvillibus was renowned as a hero, the right-hand of Asmodeus, a Gurgax more formidable than many pit fiends.

Only the ignorant who were unaware of his identity dared to assail him. The specifics of his final excursion to the Hells may never be fully discerned, but upon his return to Bal-Kriav nine years later, he had orchestrated a diabolical scheme in collaboration with his master.

Purlotat, the minotaur high priest of Coeus, returned to his domain with a somber expression "The Usurper Comes Home Once More"

Apoxlin's Sentence Ends

Lust for Rule 1683

In 1683, Apoxlin's Sentence concluded. He returned to Azrik, restoring his base of power - a considerable amount can occur in nine years. His objective was to become the master of the minotaurs. His motivation was more than personal, as he was following a course conceived within the Hells. It was part of the plans he and Asmodeus had created to augment his master's influence on the world of Bal-Kriav. After being denied his former position as Ba'lith general, Rax prepares for war.

Terror March 1692 - 1694

Starting the Terror March, Rax engages in war with Ba'lith. This conflict proved rather effortless for Rax. This was because Rax's role in Ba'lith's military history is legendary, not only for his battlefield exploits, but the invaluable strategic knowledge he acquired during his extensive Hells Eleven Tours, much of that time spent under the tutelage of Asmodeus, Overlord of the Hells and one of history's most accomplished military commanders. Many minotaurs believed him to be a champion of a war deity, dispatched to fight alongside a warrior race.

Coeus Civil War 1694

Following on the heels of the Terror March, Rax's actions precipitated the Coeus Civil War ( 1694 - 1697 ) . This was a conflict between a faction of Ba'lith's military that aligned with Raxcvillibus and those that sided with the Church of Coeus.

Godslayer, Emperor of Ba'lith 1695

In Warper 1695, following the advice of Asmodeus, "If Coeus is removed, you will have the Right of Victory", Rax and his team traveled to the world Dol Vahdin and eliminated the demigod Coeus. Given Coeus's immense size, Rax returned with the deity's severed head in a wagon. The priests of Coeus were the first to feel the profound impact of their god's demise. They lost all divine energy bestowed upon them, leaving them without a divine patron. The minotaur priests subsequently came to Raxcvillibus, and many viewed Rax's feat of slaying a god as proof that he must be a deity himself, "for only a god can kill another god." After further confirmation that Rax was responsible for Coeus's death, most pledged their allegiance to him as their new leader.

With the army under his control and the priests humbled to his near-divine status, Ba'lith's government recognized Raxcvillibus as their new emperor on 17 Warper 1695. His inaugural decree banned the Church of Coeus and dismantled the theocratic governance framework that had ruled the empire for the past eight centuries ( 815 - 1695). He then installed proselytizers of Asmodeus, ushering in a new state religion.

Savior of Merorarg 1698

In 1698, a devastating Hive Swarm decimated a Sonic Horn before carving a destructive path across Azrik. This swarm was a formidable ruin swarm . The massive cloud left a zig-zagging trail of destruction from Bithiemeth to the walls of Merorarg. The menace was ultimately vanquished when Emperor Raxcvillibus emerged from the city and slew the terror.

Drachdekai Pact, for Personal Reasons 1824

In 1824, the empire of Ba'lith joined the Drachdekai Pact. This alliance was forged through promises of advanced voidship technology and related innovations. Raxcvillibus, the ruler of Ba'lith, had personal motivations for affiliating with the alien coalition. Primary among these was the prospect of achieving greater renown on the global stage. Another factor fueling his interest in this trilateral pact were the strategic targets it entailed. One such objective was the city of Isumbras. Raxcvillibus calculated that by securing this city, he could exert pressure on another regional city-state, Bueratum, which had long barred his private enterprises from participating in the Mercantile Exchange. This exclusion was due to Raxcvillibus' dual role as both Ba'lith's emperor and the patron of these quasi-public companies, which the Bueratum authorities deemed a conflict of interests with the empire's military backing.
