The Taln'nazân Monarch is an undead lord born from the darkest rituals of necromancy. This undertaking is perilous, as the undead it creates are willful, often unpredictable, and completely malevolent. Taln'nazân Monarchs are foul beings who serve as leaders of the undead. They are highly intelligent and wield dreadful powers. A Taln'nazân ruler may be a Wight-King, Ghost-King, Wraith-King, or any other superior form of the undead. Likewise, there are female counterparts to these monarchs, referred to as Wight-Queens, Ghost-Queens, and so on.
In 1019, the first of these undead were created by the lich Caliguworm. In an area beneath Phanêthil called Taln'nazân, Caliguworm recited from the Last Chapter. Using the Melephaeusan prince Glóragar as a subject, he conjured a Taln'nazân Wraith-King. The creature was merciless and cunning, nearly eliminating Caliguworm with its machinations. Ultimately, Caliguworm was compelled to eliminate his test subject.
In the year 1465, a small number of worshipers of Thasmudyan were granted the Taln'nazân rites. With the assistance of Katrana Dumu-loc and the rituals of the Last Chapter, Jairall was elevated to the position of Taln'nazân Wight-King that same year.
Unlike Thasmudyan, Rioch Tetrax creates a Taln'nazân Monarch by imbuing a profoundly powerful undead entity with a benediction. Those slain by this undead, and if their accursed soul can withstand the negative energy, rise as an undead lord. In 1531, the Ogre Lord Morbakh became a Taln'nazân Famine Spirit-King in this manner.
