Tas'dvr Mout is an immense, foreboding citadel boasting architecture reminiscent of the Asmodean capital city on Nessus. Constructed along the ridges and across the spires left in the wake of a mountainous collapse, the fortress is overshadowed by the Zan Urk mountains, its southern walls looming over the expanse of Urkell lake. The mountain's disintegration left a steep slope of debris that descends all the way to the lake's shore.
In 1301, a Minâth without an empire, Raxcvillibus Dumu-loc, arrived in this region and explored a subterranean complex constructed during the era of Varelay. The complex unveiled slave pens or, in the case of its former inhabitants, feeding grounds. The previous owner of this complex was a Drachlaz Lord named Rintasi Othralbuc. Raxcvillibus and his followers assumed control of this ancient vampire lair and expanded upon it.
Tas'dvr Mout was constructed over the lair of Rintasi. Raxcvillibus enlisted a workforce comprising fire giants and Gol'hakh from Goth-Dyvermoir, as well as cambion dwarves from Gulud-Burâg. Certain areas of the site were designed to accommodate giants and even larger entities, such as dragons.
The inspiration for Tas'dvr Mout's architecture was conceived during Raxcvillibus's sentence across the worlds of the Hells system. The structure boasts nine subterranean levels, with the top two having once been the domain of Rintasi. On the surface, Tas'dvr Mout features an abundance of towers, blockhouses, and structures built into the side of the collapsed mountain. Many of these areas are accessible via stone or rope bridges, while others can only be reached by teleporting in from a keyed teleportation circle.
Many of the interior areas above ground, as well as the majority of those underground, are adorned with or carved from Blood Marble, a common stone found in the surrounding mountains. The defensive portions of the walls and towers were constructed using a seared black stone, which in certain locations is embedded with the bones and skulls of those who have assailed the place. This seared black stone originates from quarries in the canyon Toth Coeus, and is referred to as Toth Rock. Periodically, this stone emits reddish-hued smoke that rapidly transforms into a slick oil, making the walls exceptionally difficult to climb.
The pathways leading to the fortress were at times flanked by pikes displaying the bodies of those sentenced to execution. Throughout the Terror March, the pikes bore the remains of the priests of Coeus, and above them, banners crafted from flayed skin billowed in the breeze.
In the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486), following Raxcvillibus's dismissal from the First Dead Council (c.f. 1485), Tas'dver Mout became a target for acquisition. The location was besieged by Bloodtusk forces and others seeking a fortress that at times appeared devoid of leadership. These instances of less than optimal leadership occurred during the owner's absence; the Hells Tours that Raxcvillibus had to undertake as a consequence of Apoxlin's Sentence (1485 - 1683).
Tas'dvr Mout is renowned for serving as the central hub for the Lix Tetrax organization.
Within this citadel lies the Tas'dvr Mout Foundry. This area houses a Godforge known as the Maze Furnace. This magical forge was captured by Raxcvillibus during his third tour to the Hells system (1521 - 1530), while serving under Asmodeus. Together, they warred with the abyssal lord Baphomet. In the Battle of Kurdire, Rax's army of devils seized the enemy's castle and looted the Maze Furnance, taking an anvil, slack tub, bellows, hammers, fullers, chisels, and an oven. All of these items were transported to Nessus and presented to Asmodeus. When Apoxlin's Sentence ended, Asmodeus found a way to deliver the forge to Tas'dvr Mout as a reward for Rax's nearly two centuries of service.
The Tas'dver Mout fortress is guarded by a diverse array of creatures, including ju-ju zombies, deathbringers, crawling heads, constructs, blackstone gigants, and a host of other powerful minions hailing from distant systems. The bulk of the garrison comprises various forms of lesser undead, such as skeletons and zombies, all of which have been enhanced with undead bolstering feats and magic, rendering them significantly more formidable than their standard counterparts.
This castle commands a vista over a modest walled township devoted to mining, logging, and the extraction of ores from Zan Urk.
