Coeus, an earth titan, fought alongside the primordials in the Creation War. His divine influence began on Bal-Kriav with the slaves of Varelay. It spread after idols and scrolls were discovered in Mughakh-Gol. The scrolls spoke of Coeus as a protector of the disadvantaged. The idols, containing the spirits of trapped earth elementals, proved useful in the mines and work with stone. Unable to halt the propagation of his religion, Vareley encouraged it as a means to maintain control over the slaves. Some of Coeus's priests were agents acting on behalf of Varelay's demonic overlords. For Coeus, the true devotees would be the victors of these conflicting interests; this mindset set Coeus on a path of evil, as he would do whatever was necessary to garner worship.
In 2612 LE, Coeus's devotees were suffering under Varelay's oppressive rule. Seeking liberation, thousands pledged eternal fealty to Coeus, pleading for his assistance in defeating Varelay's slave masters. Wielding an ancient relic called the Irata Phelgas, the freedom fighters opened a rift to the realm of Dol Vahdin. Aware of this, Varelay's overlord enacted a counteroffensive. As Coeus emerged, the rift was collapsed by a Sphere of Arcane energy, causing a massive explosion. This cataclysmic event sent Coeus back to his home world with grave injuries and created a perpetually smoldering canyon named Toth Coeus.
The Church of Coeus, centered on the Ba'lith Empire, fell during the Coeus Civil War (1694 - 1697). A year into this conflict, on 30 Warper 1695, Coeus was slain by the soon-to-be emperor of Ba'lith. The usurper, Raxcvillibus Dumu-loc, took several of Coeus's possessions; some were utilized in crafting weapons and armor at Tas'dvr Mout, while Coeus's blood was used in the forging of Adarmînal. Coeus's hammer, Drogrorn, became Rax's second most prized weapon.
