The immense fortress of Garaldrarg was constructed during the God Era by stone giants serving under the primordial entity known as Geb. In that era's most momentous conflict, Geb allied with the Quara'tun Covenant to battle the demonic invaders of Bal-Kriav during the Demon Spawn War.

Garaldrarg is of particular significance to our people, for it was the stone giants who constructed this formidable stronghold. During the most momentous conflict of the God Era, the Demon Spawn War, Garaldrarg was a bastion of resilience. The primordial lord Geb extolled the virtues of this place, proclaiming that it would never succumb. Its imposing walls and formidable garrison withstood numerous sieges. In its final siege, it repelled nineteen assaults before being overrun by a horde of demons numbering in the tens of thousands. When it fell, those who escaped viewed it as a sign of divine disfavor, and thus abandoned the site to decay.

The leader never lost faith in the inhabitants of Garaldrarg, though his words of encouragement ultimately proved insufficient to sustain morale.

Korin Hagdi, to his stone giant grandson, Anutrax - "Abode of Stone"

The fortified settlement of Garaldrarg is situated at the southernmost edge of the Thurnâtha highlands. It features colossal walls reaching a height of 500 feet, adorned with peculiar stones. One in every five stones serves as an anchor, securing the surrounding stones, crafted from the same material as the Endless Wall.

When the Khazarkar Empire expanded into sector Melvad, the region of Garaldrarg was home to several hundred gnolls. In the year 1399 of the Second Epoch, during the reign of Imruk, these humanoids were driven out. The ruin became a new Khazarkar settlement, which they renamed Sapthiladân in honor of Imruk's family. Under Khazarkar rule, the city grew into a major depot for iron and timber from the Thurnâtha mountains.

Rax gazes down from the Pillar, surveying the smoky battlefield enveloping a city constructed during the final century of the God Era. Imposing walls and buildings dominate the landscape. The outer streets were established by the diminutive Khazarkars, a people standing a mere third the height of the giants who previously inhabited this domain. At the heart of the city stands a colossal citadel, a structure of mammoth proportions. This central keep rivals the size of a Khazarkar town, a place once serving as the home of the region's stone giants. The Khazarkars have since expanded outward from this ancient edifice, enabling the inner citadel and surrounding city to comfortably house a quarter-million souls today.

from the Godspawn Saga

In 1832, the war along the Cinazan Front was raging across the region. In the fierce battle for the city, the defenders from the Khazarkar Empire were covertly attacked from within by a secret cell of Entropy. On 7 Witchrite 1832, the Pillar of Horns, captained by Raxcvillibus, dropped an Entropy Arch into the city's central square. This catastrophic event breached the city's northern wall, leading to its eventual capture by the Flux Pact. Unlike other places taken in the past, this city was uniquely declared off-limits to the corrupting influence of the chaos behemoths, preventing it from becoming a Chaos Ruin.

When the Entropy Arch was opened, it instantly claimed the lives of its openers. These Entropy cultists were fanatical in their desire to sacrifice themselves for the experience of merging with pure Chaos. The energy of Chaos poured forth, blazing a trail of devastation. Numerous structures were reduced to rubble, and thousands perished in an instant. It damaged part of the northwestern walls, and the energy wave then flowed into Thurnâtha, where it sheared off a section of the mountains. These great cones, buoyed by entropic energy, floated upwards like sky islands, henceforth becoming known as Skyldr-Kerthjorg.
