Sarengrorn was established in 2614 LE by refugees from the Varelay (684 LE - 2620 LE) empire. Primarily Yuan-ti, these were individuals with the means to purchase their way out of the Varelay Upheaval. Of the several thousand who paid for passage northward, across the 700-mile expanse of the Sea of Mourning, only half reached their destination. The remainder were captured by pirates or lost to the perilous Doldrums.
In its inaugural century, Sarengrorn was an impoverished and wretched locale. The gambling magnates were the initial benefactors to safeguard their ventures, constructing ornate ziggurats that functioned as gambling emporiums, financial institutions, and residential domains for the affluent. These were the more refined living quarters compared to the stilted shanties scattered across the surrounding marshlands.
By the dawn of the Mir'piamauza Empire (526 HE - 1612 HE), Sarengrorn dominated the entirety of Thongath north to the marshlands of Grel Trumgol. Notorious slavers both then and now, they posed an incessant challenge for the Mir'piamauza.
