The city of Tani-Tur was founded early in the First Epoch by the Tragaran tribe Tangad-Sin. Over the subsequent seven decades, the population swelled from a few hundred to 30,000, establishing Tani-Tur as a prominent city-state within the Gulimbor region. The economy thrived largely on the abundance of mineral resources, wheat, barley, and grapes. However, the minotaurs of central Imrabêl proved to be the city's most troublesome adversaries.

The Burterinii Empire forcibly annexed Tani-Tur in 370.

In 461, the armies of Queen Agadî Urkuzîr of the First Khazarkar Empire captured this highly coveted stronghold. They had besieged it dozens of times over the past two centuries. For the first time, Queen Agadî renamed the conquered hold, giving it the name Athânâlo, the Nidurrâb word for sanctity. Tani-Tur has a similar meaning in Tragaran, signifying blessed ground. The purpose of this change was a form of cultural replacement, a practice that continues in Cinazan to this day, replacing the old with the new, and in the minds of many Khazarkars, asserting their superiority over the surrounding peoples.

In 654, Athânâlo served as the central hub of the Khazarkar empire. As a result, Athânâlo supplanted Akann'ndâb as the empire's seat of power.

The ruins of this once-grand city reside at the northern tip of Imrabêl. Overgrown with vegetation, the site features two colossal bridges spanning the Agallurân and Nilkhimân rivers. As a result of the magical energies unleashed during the Domination Wars (995 - 1016), many of the creatures encountered within this ruin are spellwarped, possessing magical resistances and powers far beyond their normal capabilities. The ruin also serves as a haven for living spells that roam the surface and the ancient research catacombs below.

When the Gulimbor Cataclysm (996 - 1203) reached its zenith, the arcane guilds of the city convened to devise strategies for halting the uncontrolled magical energies erupting from tears in the Web of Magic. One of their creations was the arcane oozes - creatures capable of consuming vast quantities of magic, which were thought to be the optimal solution for quelling the cataclysm. Regrettably, the sheer volume of magic proved overwhelming, causing the oozes to proliferate by continuously splitting as they absorbed more power. Consequently, these entities transformed into a grave threat to the arcane guilds, slaying numerous spellcasters. Today, the lands of Gulimbor continue to heal from the Gulimbor Cataclysm, yet the menace of the arcane oozes persists, present in formidable numbers.
