For the majority of his early years, Daojin served as a laborer for the dao masters of Rilirthad. His name, Daojin, denotes his role as a "dao servant".
In 1632, he was captured on a slave ship en route to Paradomea City. The minotaur pirates took him back to Azrik, where he found himself in the Lorfin-Bator Zoo. Two years later, on a routine tour of the empire's defenses, General Raxcvillibus saw him. Moved by the sight of an intelligent sentient, Raxcvillibus purchased him from the zoo. Over the next two centuries, they developed a closeness rivaled only by Raxcvillibus's adopted son, Negral.
As an Earth Elemental, he can assume numerous shapes and forms. Regardless of the shape he takes, he consistently weighs 500 pounds. During the Siege of Ilfongrak, he adopted the guise of The Wall - a stocky humanoid figure five feet broad and four feet high, shielding Raxcvillibus and a half-dozen others from a torrent of arrows, hurled spears and javelins, as well as thrown and launched rocks. After the enemy had expended their ammunition, Raxcvillibus and Daojin led the charge through the breach. The rest of his soldiers stood with mouths agape, before voices near and far cried out, "Save the Emperor!" Raxcvillibus recollects chuckling at that rallying call, as he was in a favorable position at the base of a wall, while his soldiers had to traverse trenches and open fields under a relentless barrage that would have earned the approval of Asmodeus's most formidable generals.
It was five years later that he began to recognize Daojin's full capacity. He and his son repurposed him; where the earth elemental had only known mining, he now learned etiquette, literature, mathematics, science, and close-quarters combat. It proved a successful experiment. Following a decade of what they termed retooling, Daojin joined the Emperor's personal staff; within fifty years, he had become one of the monarch's most trusted advisors.
from the Godspawn Saga
Daojin has an idiosyncrasy that manifests when he is perplexed, for whichever guise he attempts to assume possesses some disproportionate or even inverted quality. As an elemental being, his reactions are primal in nature, often expressed through physical movements, such as a snicker that resonates like the sound of a rain stick being shaken, produced by the shifting of small stones within his mouth.
Daojin, the foremost advisor to the emperor during times of peace, harbors no political ambition or grandiose visions. Rather, his greatest fulfillment lies in serving Raxcvillibus as the trusted right-hand of the sovereign.
On the Cinazan Front, he served as a crew member aboard the Pillar of Horns.
