In 702, settlers from Akthol-Tharag ventured far eastward to claim new territory and prospective mining sites. They were led by Prince Nathargundu, who established the dwarves in the Turkosh valley. Their primary holding was Chunswornkrak. Due to the great distance and infrequent communication between these colonists and Akthol-Tharag, they voted to secede from their distant brethren. In 723, the Kingdom of Nathargundu was founded, named after the prince who had perished in a mining accident the previous year.
The hardy Nathargundu frequently engage in battle against the forces of Sakullêth and the numerous goblin hordes inhabiting the Elephant Backbone. While the sporadic goblin attacks are a mere nuisance, the depredations of Belgunth and her minions pose a greater threat. Facing these incessant challenges, the Nathargundu have evolved into formidable and cunning mountain fighters.
The merchant vessels departing from Morguard and Chunswornkrak are accompanied by crack guards on their journeys to destinations along the Mizzen and as far as the Ginnoth.
The most lucrative trade of the Nathargundu is saltpeter. This substance serves as a crucial component in the production of gunpowder. The Saltpeter Consortium controls more than thirty nitre beds.
Architecture
The builders of the Nathargundu demonstrate exceptional skill in harnessing the inherent defenses of the mountains to bolster the strength of their castles. They construct walls spanning across valleys, or devise "killing zones" encircled by three triangular bastions. These areas are thoroughly covered by every type of ranged attack. At Morguard, no fewer than twenty Bearded Belly mortars can rain down their lethal projectiles into its kill-zone.
The dwellings of the populace, apart from the fortifications, possess a Spartan-like austerity.
