The Caralda Affair was an endeavor to sever the Caralda Province from the dominion of the Goth-Dyvermoir Empire.
A desolate yet resource-abundant realm, Caralda has been the longstanding home of the Firenewt since the tumultuous Varelay Upheaval that spanned from 2608 LE to 16 HE.
In 1134, a legion of Goth-Dyvermoir's finest warriors descended Surtur's Eyebrow and then ascended, executing a subterranean assault that seized Illadvard and the Caralda wasteland. With the banner of Goth-Dyvermoir flying on both sides of the Gurutharni, the territory of the Phlem city-state, concerns over security and the disruption of the balance of power arose.
Financially supported by both government and business interests in Phlem, the Caralda Affair kindled hope, provided covert aid, and ultimately incited the people of Caralda to rebellion.
In the year 1351, Goth-Dyvermoir relinquished dominion over Illadvard and the desolate expanses of Caralda.
