Stormgur is one of the oldest mercenary companies within the realm. The company was established during the Domination Wars (995 - 1016). During the Siege of Ing-Serold, a group of adventurers and soldiers volunteered to stay behind and facilitate the retreat of the populace. These courageous individuals were presumed to have perished when the Khazarkar Empire conquered the city. However, it was later discovered that they had fought the Khazarkars for an additional six hours before retreating in good order into the sewers. A month later, the soldiers and adventurers formed a mercenary company known as Stormgur, or the Storm Guard. Initially, they provided their services without charge until their exceptional combat prowess became widely recognized and sought-after. In less than a year, they had participated in over a dozen major engagements. The legend of this remarkable group spread rapidly, with tales of their formidable battle skills, arcane arts, psionic capabilities, and abundance of skilled healers.
The group's skills were insufficient to prevent the Tragarans from being forced out of Gulimbor. It would have taken a hundred such units to have made a difference against the Khazarkar war machine. The heroics of the group continued after the Great Exodus (998 - 1017). In Hells Womb, they were employed by the Kal-Oneans for nearly five decades. The unit then traveled far west and came to serve the Farinteens for almost two decades. They then went north and served under various satraps in the Northern Hordelands.
In the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486), they served under the Black Tide. Upon the termination of their contract, they were immediately hired by the opposing side. This occurred during the Athenian Crusade (1539 - 1551), while they remained entrenched within the enemy lines of the Black Tide. The Stormgur then decimated an undead army nearly three times their size before breaking away and joining the ranks of their new employers.
The Stormgur have existed for an extensive period. Their strongholds are situated across numerous domains. These fortified outposts function as recruitment and training facilities, in addition to serving as storage depots. The camaraderie, bravery, renown, and affluence associated with the Stormgur are such that many who join ultimately become lifelong members.
The Covenant of Stormgur outlines the foundational principles and code of conduct for the group. This document has undergone minimal revisions since its initial drafting in 999. One of the core tenets is a refusal to engage in acts that could jeopardize future business opportunities. For instance, while the group may serve an unsavory patron, they would not obey an order to commit genocide on behalf of their employer.
