Onkuri Kal-Oni was a ruthless tyrant, merciless in his methods. His family detested him. Those who conspired against him met a grisly demise. He cycled through three wives. After the last perished by her husband's callous hands, no affluent or prominent family wished to offer a daughter to him. Viewed as potential usurpers, his children also passed away under mysterious circumstances at young ages. House Kal-Oni was mortified by it all, yet could do little against one of Kal-Oni's most formidable emperors.
On 12 Temporal 1090, the unseen Emperor Onkuri was assassinated by Caliguworm. This lich, the agent of Thasmudyan, then assumed Onkuri's guise and position as leader of the Kal-Oni Empire. Caliguworm grafted the former Emperor's flesh to his own body, then concealed his true nature with the dark sorcery of the Last Chapter. Now disguised as Emperor Onkuri Kal-Oni, Caliguworm seized control of the empire. It would be many years before his deception was uncovered.
Onkuri proved to be as viable a candidate as any for vanishing from sight, and no one examined the subtle shift in his demeanor or his abrupt decision reversals with great scrutiny, as all simply regarded him as deranged.
