At the core of every Eye lies an Icarus Core - an ancient propulsion system that endured the dissolution of Creation during the Lost Ages of the distant past. This high-level technology, now long since forgotten in the present era, is irreplicable.
In the Dawn Era, seven of these devices were discovered amidst the flotsam of the Sea of Entropy. Recovered by the Third Instructor, who also hailed from a different age, they were then employed in support of the Nawirrûs Covenant. These devices served as a source of power for the The Eyes, granting them rapid mobility within the Astral Sea and an artificial environment.
Without protective measures, Icarus Cores pose an exceedingly grave peril. The pragmatic Third Instructor, driven to extreme measures, rationalized using them despite the slight chance of catastrophic explosion. After the devastating loss of The Second Eye and an entire world, the Third Instructor reconsidered their deployment. They recognized the Icarus Cores were too hazardous without proper safeguards; the essential elements to prevent the Icarus Core from triggering a cataclysmic chain reaction, annihilating itself and everything in its vicinity. Such essential precautions were standard during their construction, but now no longer existed. Towards the close of the Dawn Era, all The Eyes and their formidable engines were secreted away in the Astral Sea.
