Tiamat's Spur derives its name from its primary component, a spur taken from Tiamat's tail. This spur is one of two that were forcibly seized from her by the demon lord Orcus. One legend suggests that Orcus brought her to the brink of death, and as a trophy of his victory, he ripped two spurs from her tail. One of these spurs resides in a trophy hall of Naratyr. The other was gifted to a powerful necromancer named Defilnus. This necromancer, a devoted worshipper of Orcus, utilized the spur in the forging of Tiamat's Spur. The weapon was crafted at the Arioch Forge of Shoglomph.
Tiamat's Spur is a flamberge, a wavy blade akin to flickering flames. It was forged from one of the spurs taken directly from Tiamat's tail. The hilt is crafted from Demiurgic Iron, sculpted to resemble a serpentine dragon. The tangs secure abyssrocks, while the pommel holds a corrupted angel's tear - a sizable droplet of sickly black and red hue.
When the notorious Monty sought the affections of Defilnus, she bestowed upon him the fabled Tiamat's Spur. This gesture was widely believed to have stemmed from her profound love, without any hidden agenda. However, Defilnus remained cautious, placing a formidable curse upon the weapon that would be triggered should it ever be used against her. Monty's overwhelming desire for power and prestige within the Orchish Empire ultimately eclipsed his love for Defilnus.
In 1660, Emperor Blac'drugulois approached Monty the Mad with an irrefusable offer. The Emperor bestowed upon him the prestigious title of Arch-Dragern of the Armies, but with a grave condition. Monty had to eliminate the one he loved to prove his unwavering loyalty to the emperor. Monty's lover, the powerful necromancer Defilnus, commanded a chapter of the Rat Swarm guild. Wererat spies from this guild soon learned of the deal between Monty and the Emperor, shortly after his departure from Gháshulg. When Monty returned to Collossapolos, he found Defilnus entrenched in her fortress, unaware of the expansive underground labyrinth spanning four levels beneath the city. It took a full year to finally track her down and carry out the Emperor's directive. Upon Monty's completion of the task, a curse was activated. The weapon enchanted by Defilnus and gifted to her former lover teleported away, cursed such that Monty could sense its presence nearby but never locate it. He felt the blade's persistent calling throughout Collossapolos, knowing the search had to be within the city or its subterranean realms.
For two centuries, Monty had his soldiers systematically search the residences of Collossapolos, excavate new tunnels, and explore the subterranean levels beneath the city. This endeavor resulted in the expansion of the underground labyrinth and the creation of additional levels, culminating in the establishment of the renowned The Twelve Tiers.
In 1801, Tiamat's Spur was discovered by Crimson Eye, Inc. and subsequently entrusted to Monty the Mad.
Over the three decades that Monty has possessed the blade, there have been 12 attempts to seize it through thefts, assassination plots, and large-scale assaults. The weapon was once lost when Monty was disarmed, allowing an invisible mage to take hold of it and teleport away. However, Monty tracked the blade through telepathic signals it emitted, spared the mage, and then appointed him as the head of Fograth's military intelligence.
