The offspring of an incubus and a Tragaran matriarch, Defilnus entered the world in the bustling confines of Paradomea City. As a Cambion, akin to many of her kin, she gravitated towards her demonic heritage. Defilnus pursued a dual course of study, honing her skills in both necromancy and evocation, the latter with a particular emphasis on the arcane element of fire.

In 1310, accused of actions infringing upon Paradomea's commercial interests, such as raising undead and allowing them to roam, she was exiled for 15 years. Defilnus departed with a sizable group of mercenaries, journeying deep into the northern highlands. In 1312, she commenced construction of her Bone Keep.

In 1425, acting under the auspices of the Orchish Empire, Defilnus founded a school of necromancy in the city of Argruxiel. However, Defilnus neglected to adhere strictly to the terms of her contract, and consequently became the headmistress of a cult devoted to the worship of Orcus.

In 1446, Defilnus and Monty the Mad, then a mercenary serving within the Orchish Empire, commenced an enduring romance, punctuated by lengthy intermissions over the years and decades that followed. Even after Monty's transformation into a death knight in 1501, the illustrious pair continued to be sighted at grand imperial ceremonies, adorned in lavish regalia of immense monetary value, and wielding formidable might.

In 1660, the Emperor of the Orchish Empire, Blac'drugulois, approached Monty the Mad with an offer he could not refuse. The Emperor offered him the title Arch-Dragern of the Armies, but with a condition. Monty had to kill the one he loved to prove his loyalty to the emperor. Monty's lover, the powerful necromancer Defilnus, commanded a guild chapter of the Rat Swarm. Wererat spies of this guild learned of the deal between Monty and the Emperor shortly after his departure from Gháshulg. When Monty returned to Collossapolos, Defilnus was entrenched in her fortress, and he was unaware that she had an underground labyrinth of immense size spanning four levels beneath Collossapolos. It took a year to finally track her down and carry out the Emperor's bidding. Upon Monty's execution of Defilnus, a powerful curse was activated. The weapon, a relic called Tiamat's Spur, which was enchanted by Defilnus and then given to her former lover, became the focus of the curse. Tiamat's Spur teleported away from Monty, yet still remained close, and he knew from an innate feeling that it was somewhere in or under Collossapolos.
