In 1033, colossal explorers discovered an immense ruin buried beneath one of the glaciers encircling Bullvar Ika. Over the ensuing decade, cloud giants and a legion of slaves and laborers toiled to uncover the ruin. Upon thorough excavation and subsequent pillaging by both workers and overseers, the ancient ruin broke free.
Towering above the excavation site, Avalkhirân ascended skyward, propelled by mysterious forces. Rising nearly a mile into the air, the cloud giants, cognizant of its power and historical significance from texts discovered in the ruins, flew up to their god-constructed fortress. Over the subsequent three centuries, they utilized Avalkhirân as a floating stronghold, conducting unimpeded raids on Mithrandír. Their success and the threat posed by this relic of the Dawn Era enabled them, through force, to establish their own empire, Altocumuli, in 1321.
In 1470, Monty the Mad launched a three-pronged assault on Avalkhirân. First, he unleashed six dragons; then, he ordered a bombardment by twenty fire giants mounted on rocs; finally, he deployed a ground force of 500 griffon-mounted mercenaries. Captured with heavy casualties, Avalkhirân is now better recognized as Monty's Retreat, serving as his personal residence and command center as ruler of the Orchish Empire.
The personal troops of Monty, known as Monty's Marauders, utilize this location to recklessly commit acts of rape, plunder, and other heinous crimes against the conquered settlements and fortresses.
