According to the Einglach, in the Year 1020, a pitch-black object, radiating an emerald glow and trailing a stream of jade fire, crashed into Bathmulg. The impact convulsed the region, triggering landslides and tremors as far as the High Wood Country. The sphere formed a colossal crater and remained in its depths for 21 days, before sinking into the soft clay and then plunging through rock and stone. The void it left in its wake became known as Mathongrarg's Eye, named for the dragon that once terrorized the land above.
The Svirfneblin legend affirms that the Ink Sphere descended through the ceiling, coming to rest within a dry and desolate cavern. However, in the ensuing months, the vast cavern sprung to vibrant life, as towering mushrooms, fungal columns, and other mycological lifeforms radiated outward from the Ink Sphere. Within several years, the entire cavern had become blanketed in vegetation, and over the subsequent decades, the fungal forest had expanded in all directions for ten miles.
In time, the Svirfneblin, Drow, and the Mîmêk constructed magnificent cities in the region. Rivers were diverted and channeled into the vast cavern. As the ages progressed, the races engaged in fierce conflicts over this fertile domain. The more ominous facet of the area was eventually recognized in the populace. They endured horrific mutations, sufficient to drive away the Svirfneblin. However, the Drow and Mîmêk remained. They perceived the mutations as a blessing bestowed by their deities. After several generations, they had become completely altered, transforming into aberrations and monstrosities.
Today, few cogent races inhabit the expansive cavern enclosing this Ink Sphere. Its horrors encompass fractured entities, stone trolls, ropers, and intellect devourers, all apparently impervious to the Sphere's transformations.
The Ink Sphere measures a remarkable 1,100 feet in diameter. It emanates a captivating green radiance which appears to possess a nourishing influence on fungal vegetation, as well as a transformative effect on living organisms. The Ink Sphere is situated amidst the Sphere Fungal.
In the early 1800s, a science and adventuring team explored the region of the Ink Sphere. One of the members of this team, Kavdas Urkuzir, studied the Ink Sphere for nearly two years, discovering it to be the lost core of Tiwa'erra.
