The study of necromancy has been stigmatized as inherently evil since its beginnings with the soul-devouring Maen Grirngrim. Maen Grirngrim, the Father of Necromancy, gave it a bad reputation, wreaking havoc on both sides of the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), creating Undead, stealing souls, and exchanging the glow of life energy for the void-like darkness of negative energy.
They enter with noble intentions, aspiring to obtain an advantage against the seemingly boundless legions of the primordials. In time, they delve deeper into the Art of Necromancy, becoming captivated by the potential power of summoning armies from the grave.
You have to admire Maen Grirngrim, as his writings both instruct and captivate the reader. The ancient Covenant and now our own are replete with angelic souls delving into his works, only for them to be ensnared by the raw potency of negative energy years, decades, and centuries later, no longer adhering to the same moral principles.
