Atlas Footfalls

Skull Trapper
Category Depressions
Continent Brucrumus
Region Ice Cap
Map Aettein

The Atlas Footfalls serve as a stark northern contrast to the Iron Bottom. While the southern impact sites were "controlled" by Higher Powers to seed industrial materials, this region in the Ice Cap of Brucrumus became a landing zone for the biological debris of the shattered moon Dûlan-Nûl.

Biological Fall of the Firestorm

The Dûlan-Nûl Firestorm (331 HE) peppered the Aettein sector with eight massive craters that brought more than just stone to Bal-Kriav.

  • Alien Seeding: The craters are surrounded by sentient, predatory flora originally native to the moon Dûlan-Nûl.
  • Predator Fauna: The most infamous of these moon-born terrors is the Skull Trapper, a creature that uses the bones of its prey as armor and propagates rapidly when its population is threatened.
  • Ecological Containment: The surrounding regions remain safe only because these alien plants cannot thrive in Bal-Kriav's standard environment, keeping the infestation localized to the impact zones.
Folklore and Conquest

The region's name reflects the sheer scale of the cataclysm as perceived by the inhabitants:

  • The Goliaths' Perspective: The Goliaths of Khalas named the area Atlas Footfalls based on legends of the mighty Atlas striding through the land and crushing his enemies.
  • Failed Eradication: Both the Gadstill Dynasty giants and the elves of Ithendelt attempted to purge the alien flora, but their military efforts only triggered the plants' "survival mode," causing them to grow back more aggressively.

Today, the Atlas Footfalls stand as a testament to the unintended consequences of cosmic events and the resilience of alien life forms in the face of eradication attempts.
