The swampy expanse of Bilmgar lies along the southern perimeter of the Ice Cap. It manifested into existence merely months following the inaugural sacrifice at the northern Temple of Begnhidrir.
After reducing our eldritch foe to ash, the mighty flames of Eyfari erupted with immense energy, unleashing a wave of warmth that soothed the throng of worshippers. This heat intensified when it encountered the icy expanse of Glarvard. It swiftly transformed the frozen landscape into bluish pools of water, which then rapidly evaporated. The relentless heat of Eyfari's fires continued to expand outward with each sacrifice, until, after approximately the 150th one, it had extended out to a radius of 20 miles. Within this area surrounding the temple, no ice or snow endures for long. Eyfari's fires quickly boil and evaporate the bluish, magic-tainted waters of Glarvard, while leaving the normal water to drain away unaffected. This melting of snow and ice flows towards the Rute, forming a newly created river which I shall call Skurd. The headwaters of Rute, unable to contain the sheer volume of the melting, have overflowed their banks, giving rise to a dreary swamp which I shall name Bilmgar. May these two heroes be remembered through the land formations they have inspired, blessed be their names.
Drokust, the formidable frost giant High Priest, penned these words in a tome housed within the Hel's Church of Atlas, entitled "The Fires of Eyfari"
In the early Horgon Era, the Titan Empire of Saer Erkjorg waged war against the people of Hel. During the Battle of Bilmgar, the eldritch giants scaled down the ice walls of Ice Cap and marched towards Hel. The Goliath met this army with nearly two dozen druids wielding a powerful ritual spell. The spell caused the land to buckle, opening channels to a geothermal region deep below the surface. This resulted in hundreds of geysers erupting and pouring enormous amounts of scalding water into the area. Furthermore, the heat and water entering the developing geothermal-fed swamp caused the nearby walls of Ice Cap to melt, adding to the expanding wetland.
In the Second Battle of Bilmgar, the eldritch giants employed Lith-Crillion magic in an effort to evade the geysers and the goliath's acid rain spells. They utilized the spell Create Living Vault to conjure 38 living vaults, sized for giants and able to traverse the rugged and muddy terrain on specially crafted footpads. The giants made multiple swamp crossings with dozens of living vaults, but as the ground became increasingly mired, one by one the living vaults became trapped in the swamp. General Heirmek's army, led by Saer Erkjorg, reached the walls of Hel but lacked the necessary numbers to take the stronghold. They retreated from the area, pursued by the goliath for months. This would be the final army of Saer Erkjorg to consider attacking Hel, as they never escaped Esto'khar, diminished daily by goliath guerilla attacks and opportunistic assailants.
The earth giants of Vigring, once allies before becoming a subservient state to Saer Erkjorg, perceived vulnerability in their overlords and seized every chance to harass them during Heirmek's Retreat.
Gizdalur, the renowned goliath battle chronicler, recounts the events of the "Second Battle of Bilmgar" in a recent Chronicle Column in Hel
Bilmgar is littered with numerous living vaults. The majority of these constructs remain intact, though they lie buried deeply in mud or partially submerged in hot water. Given the extensive history since their disappearance, some courageous individuals have attempted to recover a living vault from the swamp. Unfortunately, only one has succeeded in this arduous undertaking, as the others failed to unlock the intricate magical attunement of these devices.
Searing waters, scorching geysers, and pungent gases render Bilmgar a perilous locale for travel. Only those organisms accustomed to intense heat establish their domain within this realm. This encompasses steam mephits, mud slaadi, scalding water-spitting lizards, bog giants, and other formidable adversaries.
