The Daeron forest in southeastern Voternil was relatively ordinary until the Second Pick War, a protracted conflict between the empires of Daklode and Spirachiln that unfolded within its bounds. Daklode sought to secure the forest and cut off Spirachiln's supply lines from RĂºmil, leading to the construction of numerous fortifications, watchtowers, keeps, and strongholds over the course of nearly 15 years of fighting. Certain extremist factions on both sides turned to experimenting on fey creatures from Einreth, seeking to control and employ them as soldiers to bolster their destructive capabilities. This practice was adopted by both sides once the benefits became apparent, with Daklode and Spirachiln tacitly funding the research of these groups, despite the ambassadorial embarrassment. With the end of the Second Pick War, the extremist elves and dwarves have continued their conflict, as the Daeron forest is seen as a convenient location to contain such elements, preventing them from drawing the two empires into another protracted war.
The troublesome denizens of Daeron frequently fall victim to giant eagles, owlbears, and blink dog packs. Some of these creatures are domesticated by the Spirachiln military and commence their training in military encampments on the Marwing border - a lowland woodland situated northeast of Daeron and along the northern bank of the Cuilemo river.
