Map Hlothruk Mountains

The Hlothruk is a vast mountain range stretching across the southern reaches of the Lands of Purity and the Troll Bogs. These rugged highlands have long been the domain of the Tungesti, goblins, ogres, and hill giants. The tribes of Hlothruk, numbering in the hundreds, have engaged in relentless raiding and warfare for millennia. When the Tragarans arrived during the Great Exodus (998 - 1017), they became the primary targets of the tribes' predatory raids. The Farinteens collectively referred to these warlike tribes as the Zog-Nee. Over time, the Farinteen Dynasty managed to stabilize their borders, yet still faced the occasional large-scale incursion.

In the final months before the collapse of the Farinteen Dynasty, thousands of refugees sought shelter in the Hlothruks. They hailed from Vraga Moltus and other conquered cities across the Lands of Purity, fleeing before the Black Tide and converging on the Vale of Hûma-Nar and the coastlines. The influx of refugees was so overwhelming that they were able to push back certain barbarian tribes, seizing control of hills, valleys, and settlements.

After demonstrating our valor in battle, likely the most effective means of earning the respect of these individuals, we forged a friendship and even an alliance. Although we had seized their domain, they recognized this was but a transient state of affairs; moreover, they welcomed the prospect of our acting as a buffer between them and the hordes of the undead. We accepted their customs, perhaps even a legacy of raids and pillaging, as these paled in comparison to the grim fate that befell those captured or slain by the Black Tide.

When the Black Tide of Thasmudyan were driven from the Lands of Purity, the displaced refugees returned to their ravaged cities, towns, and farms. The Zog-Nee reclaimed their former territories and have since resumed their incursions into the lowlands.

One of the most renowned tribes in the region is the Zagul-Tîn. During the Athenian Crusade (1539 - 1551), the shapeshifting bear forces deployed by the Zagul-Tîn proved remarkably effective in combating the undead.
