The hilly Holentur Forest resides within the Vale of Gul. After the tumultuous Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), this verdant region became a haven for wood elves, wood woad, sprites, and other fey who had served under the auspices of a Covenant leader named Corellon.
The most remarkable feature of Holentur are its "sky isles", hundreds of earth mote anchored to the surface by massive vines. These aerial platforms are a by-product of Rilirthad's adamantine mining, an industry active for nearly 250 years, leaving the area scarred with excavation pits and exposing ancient petrified trees from the era of the Ethenoran (1145 HE - 222).
In the Holentur War, a single tree was petrified with the demise of each Ethenoran. By the year 222, the final mystical trees had been transformed into stone. The petrification process that grips Holentur is a marvel of nature, transforming living organisms into unyielding stone. This metamorphosis occurs through the saturation of the subject's tissues with mineral-rich waters, gradually hardening the body until it becomes an immutable fossil. The transfixing sculptures that emerge from this geological phenomenon are testament to the power and artistry of the earth's own handiwork. Visitors to Holentur are awed by the eerie, yet captivating statues that dot the landscape, each one a frozen moment in time, preserved for eternity.
As the ancient petrified wood was dislodged, it began to rise upward, carrying with it a mass of earth and stone ensnared within its roots. While some were constrained by the vines and roots still attached, others simply hovered above. These airborne landmasses became sanctuaries for flying creatures, and even enterprising wizards made them their dwelling places. From the undersides of these earthen chunks, roots gradually extended downward, further securing their position. The surfaces of these "rooted" isles soon blossomed with verdant vegetation and thriving tree growth. Amidst a cluster of these floating landforms lies the venerable ruin of Norilenwen.
The mystical Holentur Hooks were crafted from the region's adamantine. These enchanted devices extended the duration of conjuration spells on summoned Earthen, allowing them to persist for years rather than hours. Individuals who donned these amulets became integrated into Tinnanguth's Earthen labor force.
