Ma'rya lies on the leeward side of the Felakgathar Range. This region is shielded from the easterly moist winds originating in Vhurghad, resulting in a dry belt of land spanning approximately 50 miles wide and hundreds of miles north and south. This arid area also endures the winds that traverse the Felakgathar Range, which, devoid of moisture, are frequently laden with noxious smoke and perilous gases.
In addition to the typical desert-dwelling creatures, Ma'rya is home to formidable sand howlers, fearsome leucrotta, massive dire camels, and giant chaos scorpions. The latter two were brought here during the Creation War by the Covenant, using the camels as pack animals and mounts, while the primordials introduced the chaos scorpions to control the camel population. In the ensuing era, during the Demon Spawn War, demons employed leucrotta in their scouting units, while the angelic forces utilized the sand howlers. Those creatures that survived the conflicts, either by escaping or being abandoned, remained in the region. Travelers often view the cunning leucrotta and the packs of sand howlers as more perilous threats than the solitary chaos scorpion hunting for its next meal.
