The Phalgas's Eyelids are holes dotting the Knur Slagming plain. They vary in size, with the smallest measuring 10 feet across and the largest reaching up to half a mile in rough diameter. Geologists assert these holes are not natural formations, but rather the product of tunneling by purple worms or other Underdark burrowers. They are perplexed as to why something would dig holes from the surface, only to end up over an Underdark sea. These formations are known by several names, with Phalgas's Eyelids being the most commonly used. The Githirmil, however, have their own term for them - Gruumsh's Spittoons, which is the area's prevalent surface name.
The Third Dragon Wake (1575 HE - 1576 HE) saw these enormous cavities function as the exit point for purple dragons. Compelled by the Dragon Wake frenzy, these denizens of the Underdark ascended from the dark recesses of Imgangreth to raid the surface.
