Styming was formed during the Varelay Upheaval (2608 LE - 16 HE). In this tumultuous period of the Lith-Crillion Era, the land was rocked by violent volcanic eruptions and seismic tremors. At the time, the area of Styming was a marshy expanse dotted with numerous ponds and rivulets. A particularly devastating earthquake subsequently carved a colossal trench that gradually filled with water. The fire giants of Cerbere christened this new lake Styming. The lake's bed is pockmarked with the submerged ruins of the Tilnangau civilization.
