In the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), the southern arm of the Inghild mountains was known as Tharum. The demon lord Ogtha commanded the south, while the Covenant controlled the highlands north of the Viiz Bo river. Within the southern mountains, Ogtha's armies were stationed, guarding an inter-system rift that connected their Abyssal home world to the battlefields of Bal-Kriav. Demons, thirsting for plunder and bloodshed, were ushered through the rift, provided with the necessary armaments, and then hastily deployed to the frontlines.

It took two centuries of determined effort, with hundreds of our finest agents killed or worse. Our saboteurs infiltrated Ogtha's formidable defenses, scaling walls, evading towers, and traversing trenches filled with the dead, all while navigating through forests teeming with malevolent predators and demon patrols. On a one-way mission, they reached a foul-smelling pond. There, they likely observed the guards casting hooks into the brackish water, either retrieving the drowned or ensnaring those swimming up from the depths. At the bottom of this pond lay the rift to Ogtha's homeworld, Kelresson. As per the plan, the saboteurs entered the water cloaked in invisibility, then swam down to the rift's opening where they detonated a null mine.

I am aware that any reader of this may question my commitment, yet without Rilthang's resources, these honorable sacrifices would have been meaningless.

Arkûn, Eastern Brucrumus Head of Intelligence, to Naraz Naru - "76th Counter Rift"

The explosion from the null mine triggered another rift to open temporarily beside the existing one. This counter rift converged with the demon rift, causing the land to buckle, split, and then float skyward for hundreds of feet, pushed apart by a surge of entropic energy. Once this surge dissipated, the fractured landscape plummeted to the ground, slaying demons in the tens of thousands. The rift was sealed, leaving behind a devastated terrain of shattered rock, vast boulder fields, and deep crevasses, the remnants of mountains reduced to rubble.

Late in the Horgon Era, Tharum became the home of stone giants numbering in the hundreds. Refugees of the Gadstill Dynasty (275 HE - 1533 HE) founded the settlement of Saer'kal along Tharum's western ramparts. Today, Tharum and the workshops of Saer'kal are renowned for producing some of the realm's most skilled stonemasons and engineers.
