Null Mine

Category Magic Items
Type bomb

Null mines were created to puncture the Web of Magic. When detonated, they sometimes opened a rift between systems or worlds. Due to their inherently unstable core, these devices did not always function as intended. The core contained unstable energy from Chaos, indistinguishable from other elemental energies, making it difficult to detect. Some have taken to describing this as Null Energy - despite its appearances, it is an energy that consumes other energies around it.

When detonated near a weak point in the Web of Magic, the foundation of a world's arcane energy, the mine has an abundance to consume; sufficient to sustain a rift for millennia before rendering an area devoid of magic. Ultimately, most rifts are sealed by the Web's weave spiders or by those who perceive them as a grave potential menace to the stability of either realm.

In the Creation War ( 1486 DE - 8777 DE ) , the primordials employed null mines to engineer rifts between the realm of Chaos and the worlds of Nawirrûs.

As Piranoth's Steps fell to the demons during the Abyssal Release ( 7777 DE - 8777 DE ) , caches of null mines were discovered by the system's new overlords. These devices would ultimately precipitate another major conflict, the invasion of the Quara'tun System during the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) .

In the Lith-Crillion Era, the Concubine General commanded an army from Fimbulwinter through a blizzard-like vortex. Crafted with a cluster of null mines, this ancient scourge and her frigid army traversed this rift to Bal-Kriav, assaulting the denizens of Elemantum.
