Malmus, today a melting pot of subterranean races, was founded early in the Horgon Era. It began with the city-states of Maldrarg and Telostyxe joining as one. This union granted them the opportunity to compete commercially and on the battlefield with their larger neighbors. It was an unlikely alliance, with dark elves and fomorians joining as equals under one empire. Malmus weathered civil wars over religion, with the elves and their unholy goddess seeking to elevate their kind, and the fomorians believing in the supremacy of strength. Nevertheless, by 500 HE, Malmus had become a powerhouse in the Melgrinn Region, with the numbers and resources to dictate terms of business, growing increasingly hostile and belligerent towards its neighbors. The kuo-toa of the Blood River were the first to fall, as Malmus went to war to claim the rights to the Lirhazi Cavity to meet its need for living space. Having subdued the kuo-toa, Malmus expanded northward, founding the settlement of Ygasalax in 519 HE.
