A product of the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), the Arioch Cloud is a rift in the depths of Curatoch. Though technically still open, it is encircled by a perilous field of temporal distortion. The Arioch Cloud is so hazardous that only Chronos and a few time elementals can traverse it; others are cast into a different dimension, frozen in time. During the Demon Spawn War, which connected the world of Bal-Kriav with the demon lord Athroond's homeworld, the Arioch Cloud served as an invasion route for tens of thousands of demons and hundreds of aboleth.
On 2 Brightstar 243 GE, the Covenant commander Marindecar activated an ancient artifact designated the Timepiece of Chronos. Necessitating the expenditure of her entire life energy to power the device, it froze everything surrounding the rift, both friend and foe, transporting them to a timeless dimension. So potent was the Timepiece of Chronos that its effect traversed the rift, displacing the world of Arioch through time.
