During the initial year of each novel decade, the ebony-hued moon Deaths Kindle appears in Bal-Kriav's skies for five months. This produces an event known as the Shade of Darkness, a perilous period plagued by heightened undead activity. The night sky is illuminated by a muted violet aura from the magic and radiation of this celestial body. The practice of sorcery and necromancy reaches its pinnacle during another cycle termed the Zenith of Darkness, an ominous time occurring every 592 years.
The moon known as Deaths Kindle is believed to be the pure essence of negative energy, and the home world of Thasmudyan and his legions of the undead. This notion holds some truth. At the core of this celestial body lies a sphere of negative energy referred to as the Death Ball. Comparable in mass to the Cube of Arcane, which measures fifty miles on each side, this sphere serves as a potent source of negative energy, drawn upon by practitioners of necromancy and undead creatures powered by such forces. Just as the Cube of Arcane is the wellspring of arcane energy for the world of Bal-Kriav, the sphere at the heart of Deaths Kindle fuels the negative energies harnessed by its denizens.
Deaths Kindle lacks an atmosphere. It possesses a perpetually dark side and a shadowy side. The dark side is a region devoid of life energy, a haven for the Undead. The shadowy side is a Shade Farm, a landscape intertwined with shadow energy.
One of the most precious resources on this moon is the metallic substance known as gloomstar.
